Hi, I’m Victoria Kurichenko, an SEO content strategist and SEO specialist based in Toronto, Canada.
I created Behind Rankings in 2021 (back then it was called Self Made Millennials and reflected my personal journey) to share what it’s really like to create, grow, and monetize a personal website.
Here, I talk about everything I learned from my hands-on SEO experience, including my content experiments, SEO tools, traffic growth, mistakes, AI SEO, my thoughts on where the industry is heading, and everything in between.
Most of the content you find here is based on what I actively do on my own websites, my clients, and other projects.
The problem I couldn't ignore
When I started sharing my SEO experience publicly in 2019, I noticed something frustrating. Most SEO content I could find on the web fell into two groups:
- High-level strategy articles without the details I actually needed for my work
- Beginner guides that assumed you knew nothing about SEO
There wasn’t much content for people already doing the work and looking for practical insights from someone more experienced.
That’s the gap Behind Rankings aims to fill!
I share my thoughts, my learnings, my experience testing various SEO tools, wins, and failures. I believe there’s no magic formula for SEO success, but seeing the real process is often more valuable than reading another polished case study.
When something works, I share it. When something fails, I share that too.
SEO lessons written from experience
Much SEO content is written primarily to rank on Google. You can usually tell.
Behind Rankings takes a different approach. Every article I create is based on something I’ve personally tested, used, or experienced.
That might be:
- An SEO tool I’ve used for months
- An SEO content strategy I’ve automated with LLMs and integrations to save me time
- SEO trends, I believe, site owners should keep an eye on this year
- My thoughts and learnings after attending the Google Search Central Live event in Toronto
My newsletter follows the same philosophy, but shares the latest industry updates and a bit more about “me.”
Every two weeks, I share the latest industry updates, changes I see in search, and my thoughts.
With 100+ published editions and a 60%+ average open rate, it’s become my favorite way to share real-time insights without the fluff.
I don’t try to cover every SEO topic under the sun. I write about what I’ve actually done and can speak about honestly. And that’s intentional.
For people growing websites
I created Behind Rankings for people who are actively growing websites and turning them into online brands. This includes:
- SEO professionals
- Content strategists
- Website owners
- SaaS and B2B marketers
- Creators building content-driven businesses
Most readers aren’t complete beginners. They’re already publishing content, growing websites, managing SEO, or building a business. They want practical answers, not recycled best practices copied from five other articles.
If that’s you, you are probably in the right place.
Here, you’ll find content about AI SEO, search trends, content strategy, keyword research, topical authority, internal linking, SEO tools, website growth, affiliate marketing, newsletters, and content monetization.
The goal isn’t to provide a one-size-fits-all SEO formula, but to give you an honest look at what works for me, what doesn’t, and why, so you can apply those insights to your own websites.
Meet Victoria Kurichenko
Hello from the other side of the screen! 👋
My name is Victoria, and I’ve been working in SEO since 2019.
My career started at a UX design agency, followed by SEO and content roles working with B2B and SaaS companies.
Eventually, I built my own content business. In 2025, my website Behind Rankings generated over $45,000 through affiliate commissions and brand partnerships, attracting roughly 18-20k monthly visitors.
I’ve also published more than 360 articles on Medium and built an audience of over 21,000 followers.
Along the way, I’ve become a Semrush Ambassador and have been featured by companies and publications including Ahrefs, Moz, HubSpot, and Medium.
I’ve sold more than 400 copies of my SEO ebook, How to Hit the Google Front Page, now in its fourth edition.
In recent years, I’ve attended events such as SEO IRL Toronto, Full Circle AI Marketing Conference, and Google Search Central Canada to stay connected with the people actually doing SEO work and sharing their experiences.
One thing hasn’t changed since I started: The best content comes from people who have actually done the work. Not just people talking about it.
Keep up with Behind Rankings
Behind Rankings is where I document the ongoing journey of building websites, growing traffic, testing SEO strategies, and adapting to the changes happening in search.
