I first started using Semrush back in 2019 when I was completely new to SEO.

At the time, I was eager to learn how the industry worked, and tools like Semrush became one of my best resources for learning SEO. They helped me understand SEO metrics, organic traffic, technical SEO, keyword research, and much more.

I believe the fastest way to learn is by doing. The knowledge you get from actually doing things yourself is often far more valuable than simply reading about it or watching someone else explain it.

That’s why whenever a new SEO tool comes out, I usually sign up and test it firsthand. Semrush One was no different.

In this Semrush One review, I’ll share why I decided to upgrade, my experience using the Semrush One Starter plan, and whether it’s worth the $199/month price tag. Yes, it’s a significant investment.

If you haven’t tried Semrush One yet and want to see how it works, you can get a 14-day free trial for Semrush One through my partner link instead of the standard 7-day trial.

P.S. Some links in this post are affiliate links. If you decide to sign up, I’ll earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I believe in being transparent about that. And honestly, I’m happy to support Semrush because it’s a tool I’ve personally used and relied on for years. 🙌

Why I started using Semrush One

I signed up for the Semrush One Starter plan shortly after it launched in mid-2025.

At the time, I was already using Semrush Pro, but I was also curious about the AI Visibility Toolkit. AI and SEO were becoming one of the hottest topics in the industry, and I wanted to understand how AI search was changing the way people discover websites and brands.

Alongside working on SEO for my own website, Behind Rankings, I started digging deeper into AI search visibility and looking for ways to track my site’s presence across AI platforms.

That’s when I realized that having both SEO and AI visibility data in one platform makes a lot of sense. Search has changed dramatically with the rise of AI. It’s no longer just about getting clicks from Google. It’s also about making sure your brand shows up and gets mentioned in LLMs and AI search results.

However, I believe the industry is in the early stages of figuring this out. There are more questions than answers right now, and even experienced SEO professionals don’t have a clear vision yet.

Monitoring your brand’s performance in LLMs and AI search results can help you better understand how your brand performs and make data-driven decisions about what to do to continue boosting AI search presence.

When it comes to the AI Visibility functionality of Semrush One, monitoring is basically the only feature I’ve been using lately. Even tracking prompts doesn’t really help since those change frequently. But the overall understanding of AI performance can give a better picture and help make the next move.

What's included in Semrush One?

Semrush One combines the SEO toolkit and AI Visibility Toolkit.

You can also benefit from the Semrush MCP connector that lets you link your Semrush account to any LLM (more on that below).

One thing I like is that the bundled pricing is cheaper than purchasing both toolkits separately. The Semrush One Starter plan costs $199/month, while the SEO Toolkit and AI Visibility Toolkit would cost $238.95/month if purchased separately.

Semrush One functionality

Here’s what you can do with Semrush One:

  • Check AI visibility for various domains across popular platforms, like AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, and ChatGPT (up to 300 daily reports).
  • Check brand mentions, citations, and cited pages.
  • See where LLMs find information about your brand.
  • Track both organic search visibility and AI visibility based on your target keywords and prompts.
  • Research and monitor prompts relevant to your niche.
  • Analyze AI sentiment around your brand.
  • Run AI site audits.
  • Compare your AI search visibility against competitors.
  • Measure your AI share of voice.
  • Access personalized keyword difficulty scores and topical authority insights tailored to your domain.
  • And more!

If you’re primarily interested in the AI-related features, I’ve also published a separate review of the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, where I take a much deeper look at how everything works and whether it’s worth the investment.

I also suggest checking out Google’s AI optimization guide. It shares best practices directly from the Google team on how to improve your chances of getting your content cited and mentioned in AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Back in April 2026, I had the chance to meet the Google team at the first Google Search Central event in Canada, where they gave a really helpful talk on what matters for AI search visibility and success.

That was just one of the sessions from the event, so if you’re interested, I’ve also put together a summary of everything shared that day.

Semrush MCP + LLMs connection

In my experience, this is probably one of the most helpful features that is worth the money.

With Semrush MCP, you can connect your Semrush account to any preferred LLM and automate plenty of SEO workflows. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. It’s up to you how you set up your processes. In my case, I connected Semrush to Claude via Semrush MCP.

Semrush MCP connect to Claude

Here’s what I’ve been able to do after connecting Semrush MCP to Claude:

  • Running a full technical website audit, pulling real data directly from Semrush Site Audit without switching tabs.
  • Doing competitor analysis in one prompt, combining Semrush organic research data with my own site context.
  • Creating an SEO content strategy with a content plan grounded in actual Keyword Magic Tool data, not AI guesses.
  • Analyzing posts that dropped in rankings and getting a prioritized recovery plan based on live Semrush position tracking data.
  • Creating SEO strategies for local businesses by pulling domain overview and competitor data on demand.

However, I suggest always carefully checking the LLM’s outputs since hallucinations can happen.

Also, keep in mind that every request you make through the LLM consumes API units to fulfill it.

If you’re on the Semrush One Starter plan, you’ll receive 50,000 API credits per month to use with your LLM-connected requests.

To put that into perspective, one keyword research session used 2,440 credits in my case. A more comprehensive SEO strategy session that included competitor research, a technical SEO audit, and a 12-month content plan consumed approximately 7,190 credits at once.

You can easily keep track of your remaining API credits by checking the Subscription Info section in your Semrush account.

I’d also recommend setting most tools to require manual approval first when you connect Semrush MCP to Claude. That way, you can see exactly which tools are being called and how many credits each request uses, instead of burning through your monthly allowance without realizing it.

Semrush One $199/m plan limitations

It’s only fair to also talk about the downsides, especially given the price.

First, Semrush One isn’t cheap. If you’re just starting out or working with a tight budget, the Semrush Pro plan or even the free Semrush version could be enough.

On the Starter plan, you can track up to 50 prompts for AI search. In reality, this limit feels tighter than it sounds because prompts change quite often. For comparison, the Pro+ plan increases this to 100 prompts per day, and the Advanced plan goes up to 200.

All Semrush One plans also include a single-user seat. If you need to add teammates, it costs extra per user: $45/month on Starter, $80/month on Pro+, and $100/month on Advanced.

You also get up to 300 AI analysis reports per day. That means you can check AI search performance for 300 different domains daily, which is usually more than enough even for agency work, but still worth knowing.

This is what the AI analysis report looks like:

SEMrush AI Visibility dashboard showing a progress overview for behind rankings: a 'Low' gauge at 14/100, a line chart of mentions, citations, and cited pages over time, and a 'What’s Next?' panel on the right.

I was browsing various subreddits, where one Reddit user mentioned the following

“I went to the Brand Performance report. It said new data would be generated in a few minutes (so presumably fresh data). The platform asked me to add 3 competitors.

After ~20 minutes, the report was ready, but none of the competitors I entered were included. Instead, it showed different competitors, and I don’t see an option to change them.”

I can totally relate since I also can’t pick the preferred competitors for the brand performance report. And here’s why it happens,  according to Semrush: When you are trying to pick a competitor from the existing list, you can only see the competitors mentioned in LLM-generated answers that may be associated with your brand. Competitors are sorted by share of voice.

If a brand is missing, it likely wasn’t mentioned in the analyzed responses.

Still, I’d love to pick and track my competitors instead.

Regardless of your Semrush One plan, you can only analyze and monitor weekly AI brand performance and sentiment for one domain. If you’re a site owner like me, that’s fine. For agencies managing multiple clients, it can be challenging.

Is $199/Month Worth It?

Let’s break down the numbers first:

  • Semrush Pro: $139.95/month (SEO only)
  • AI Visibility Toolkit (separately): $99/month per domain
  • If bought separately: $238.95/month
  • Semrush One: $199/month

So if you actually need both toolkits, Semrush One does save you around $40 a month. But the bigger question is not the price difference, but whether you really need both right now.

In my opinion, this plan makes the most sense for SEO professionals who are already deep into AI search tracking, building content strategies based on real SEO data, and using LLMs like Claude as part of their daily workflow. If that’s you, the MCP integration alone can noticeably speed up your work and change how you run your sessions.

If you’re a beginner, running a small blog with little AI search visibility, or you’re still not sure if your brand is even showing up in AI results yet, this might be too early.

In that case, it’s better to start with Semrush Pro, focus on building organic traffic first, and move up when AI visibility actually becomes relevant for you. You can also check out my full Semrush review to see what the SEO toolkit offers on its own.

And if you’re comparing different AI SEO tools or just want a wider view of the space, I’ve also covered alternatives in my best SEO tools guide.

FAQs

Semrush One is a subscription plan that combines the Semrush SEO Toolkit with the AI Visibility Toolkit. It was launched in 2025 for marketers, SEO professionals, and business owners who want to track both organic and AI search performance.

With Semrush One, you can monitor how your brand appears in LLMs like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, as well as Google AI Mode and AI Overviews. The Starter plan begins at $199 per month and also includes access to the Semrush MCP connector, which allows you to connect Semrush data directly to Claude and other large language models.

Semrush Pro and Semrush One are two different pricing plans.

Semrush Pro starts at $139.95 per month and includes all the essential SEO tools, such as keyword research, site audits, rank tracking, competitor analysis, and more.

Semrush One includes everything available in Semrush Pro, plus the AI Visibility Toolkit. If you’re mainly focused on traditional SEO and aren’t actively monitoring AI search visibility yet, Semrush Pro will likely cover everything you need to get started.

The Starter plan costs $199 per month. If you need more data and higher limits, the Pro+ plan is available for $299 per month and includes features like historical SEO data, tracking for up to 1,500 keywords per day, and 100 AI prompts daily.

For agencies and larger teams, there’s the Advanced plan at $549 per month. It comes with higher usage limits, including support for up to 40 websites, 5,000 tracked keywords per day, and 200 AI prompts daily.

You can also add extra user seats to any plan, although this increases the monthly cost depending on the subscription you choose.

Yes, Semrush One comes with a 14-day free trial when you sign up through my partner link. Normally, the free trial lasts 7 days, so this gives you an extra week to test the platform.

It gives you more time to explore features like the AI Visibility dashboard, the MCP integration with LLMs, and the full suite of SEO tools before deciding whether the subscription is a good fit for your needs.

If your main goal is to track AI visibility, tools like Otterly AI and Peekaboo AI are great options.

If you need a more complete SEO platform with AI visibility features included, Ahrefs offers Brand Radar, while SE Ranking provides an AI Visibility Tracker.

Depending on the features and limits you need, the total cost of SEO tools with AI-related add-ons can be similar to, or even higher than, Semrush One when you’re trying to cover both traditional SEO and AI search visibility in a single setup.
